The announcement was made on Samsung’s Newsroom blog; the company claims that the new memory cards were made with photographers and content creators in mind. The Pro Plus microSD and SD cards promise fast reading and writing speeds of up to 160 megabytes per second (MB/s) and 120 MB/s, respectively. Reading and writing speeds refer to how fast an SD card transfers data, whether it’s downloading or uploading files. These cards allow users to capture high-quality 4K ultra-high definition or Full HD videos at relatively fast speeds. The new SD models also have Samsung’s “six-proof protection,” which can withstand water, extreme temperatures, drops, and even x-rays. The revamped EVO Plus cards have a reading and writing speed of 130 MB/s, making this series 1.3 times faster than the previous generation. The EVO cards offer the same level of protection against outside forces and were made with the casual user in mind. The biggest difference between the two lines is their storage capacity, which directly correlates to their price point. The EVO Plus SD cards range from 32GB of storage to 256GB ($8.99 to $39.99). The microSD variation goes from 64GB to 512GB ($18.99 to $99.99). The Pro Plus SD cards start with a 32GB card and go up to a 512GB product. The microSD cards are available in 128GB ($34.99), 256GB ($54.99), and 512GB ($109.99). The Pro Plus SD line also has a USB 3.0 memory card reader available. Both line-ups are currently available for purchase.
